When people find out that I lost over 60 pounds, 99% of the time, the follow-up question is “How did you do it?” or “What’s the secret?” and my answer, I’m sure you’ve heard it before “Diet and exercise.”
The MOST important factor? Determination and patience. If you’re like me, you can gain 10 lbs after a couple of weeks of not paying attention, and it will take three months of work to lose it back.
Deciding that you are going to make a change for your life and become healthy won’t happen and won’t stick unless you’re really willing to have the patience to finish and endure the plateaus and times where you see no progress.
It happened to me about every two months where weeks would pass and I would see no difference on the scale. I did see inches lost and felt healthier, but I would be lying if I said I didn’t feel defeated when I saw no weight loss. Setting a real solid goal with an end date kept me focused and on track. I would also be lying if I said I didn’t give in and have a binge day or meal because I was super bummed or stressed or just because I felt like giving myself a day off.
The key is that the next day I forgave myself, hit the gym, and stayed the course. Weight loss is a marathon, not a sprint.
