WSD Week 3 – Plateaus (and death) suck

Wow, only on the start of week 3 and I’ve already plateaued, with a meager .5 lb loss for the week. I saw some inches lost, but still, what a bummer. To be honest I felt pretty defeated when I stepped on the scale this morning. I allowed myself to feel sorry for about a half hour and then started picking my next plan of attack.

I upped my cardio pretty seriously last week, my rest days are now spent performing mock sprint triathlons (bike to the pool, 400 meters later: hop on bike for another 12 miles, then finish on foot at home around the block for 5k) so I’m clocking in six hours of cardio that would normally be spent resting.

So, if it’s not my workout that needs attention it’s probably my diet. I’ve been focusing on getting over 200g of protein a day, but haven’t been watching my calories as closely as I have been. So, this week, a strict 1600 calorie diet, unless it’s a high burn day where I will allow myself 2200. That means leaner protein, so most of the recipes will be chicken-based. If I don’t see progress next week, I’ll scream. A lot.

During the week I had dinner with some school friends, and they chose the great Olive Garden haha. ‘Knowing that the OG spells carb overload, I researched the nutrition online, and pre selected what I was going to order. That way I had no reason to even open the menu and look at the delicious pasta choices. I had a salad, grilled rosemary garlic chicken with broccoli, and even afforded myself the panna cotta, clocking in with 70g and protein and only 26g of carbs. Woohoo!

Also in my life, I saw a really great production of Into the Woods and my dog got skunked. In the nose and mouth.

My friend and fitness guru Granola Mike perform at the San Diego Circus Center which made me insanely jealous. I have the grace of a galloping giraffe on quaaludes.

Lastly, I wanted to just quickly write that the news of Robin Williams death truly shocked me and sent me into a small fit of tears, which is not common for me when it comes to celebrities. He was an incredible actor and is the only one true Peter Pan in my eyes. Or Popeye. Who could imagine watching the Genie without his voice? Or make me bawl while watching Mrs. Doubtfire? I truly miss him, and I hope he has found some tranquility in the deep sleep.

Stats for start of Week 3:

  • Neck: 13″ (-.5)
  • Arm: 12″ (no loss)

  • Hips: 37″ (-1)
  • Thigh: 24″ (-.25)
  • Calves: 15″ (.5)
  • Weight: 158.7 lbs
  • Feeling: determined for better results next week!
